Azure Dynamics Corporation announced 29 new Ford Transit Connect Electric sales, including 8 units in Europe and 21 units in North America, which includes a 3-unit reorder from Johnson Controls, Inc. These sales include: Van Bortel Ford in Rochester, NY. Verizon Wireless through Stoneham in Stoneham, MA.

Azure Dynamics Corporation has selected Lotus Lightweight Structures, a division of Group Lotus plc, to provide assembly support for the Transit Connect Electric for the European market. On a full charge, Transit Connect Electric has a range between 80 km/50 miles and 130 km/80 miles depending on auxiliary power usage and drive cycle.

The new technology, which builds on Ford technologies such as SYNC, SmartGauge with EcoGuide and Ford Work Solutions—allows the vehicle operator to program when to recharge the vehicle, for how long and at what utility rate. Ford recently was selected for two grants from the Department of Energy under its fleet electrification program.

Ford Motor Company and Azure Dynamics Corporation are introducing a passenger wagon version of the Ford Transit Connect Electric. The wagon is a logical next step for Azure and Ford which first introduced an electrified Transit Connect in December 2010. Earlier post.). The wagon has a top speed of 75 mph (121 km/h).
