Green Car Congress

They know what needs to be done to improve air quality: cleaner energy and industrial production, greener and smarter transport, and sustainable farming. Yet, one year and half past the deadline, the Italian plan is still in draft form while Greece, Luxemburg and Romania have presented no plan at all.

EEA report finds more action needed to protect Europe’s most vulnerable citizens from air pollution, noise and extreme temperatures

Green Car Congress

Eastern European regions (including Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria) and regions in southern Europe (including Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece), where incomes and education are lower and unemployment rates higher than European averages, were more exposed to air pollutants including particulate matter (PM) and ground level ozone (O 3 ). However, it needs to be combined with subsidies for switching to cleaner heating options for low-income households.

EC Survey finds majority of Europeans willing to compromise on performance, size, range and price to reduce vehicle emissions; 53% say they use car as main mode of transport

Green Car Congress

Cyprus, Luxembourg, Greece and France were the countries where the largest proportions of respondents were willing to compromise on a car’s speed, size and range, when making a purchase, in order to reduce emissions. After controlling for the different levels of “don’t know” responses, it was noted that men and the self-employed would be somewhat less likely to compromise on a car’s speed, price or range in order to be able to buy a “cleaner” car.

EEA TERM Report Finds Efficiency Gains of Clean Vehicle Technology Being Offset By Ongoing Increases in Travel

Green Car Congress

While technological advances are producing cleaner vehicles, more and more passengers and goods are travelling further distances in Europe, thereby offsetting efficiency gains. None of the EEA scenarios considered delivered the targeted reduction in transport GHG emissions. The closest is the combination of improved technology and “avoid and shift” policies. Carmakers are going green but British motorists are not

Green Cars News

The report found that strict new emissions laws are having a strong effect on the availability of cleaner cars, but wealth, motoring taxes, fuel prices and consumer attitudes, which vary wildly from country to country across Europe, have much more of an effect on how clean a car is chosen.&#.
