Shell has selected Ascension Parish in Louisiana as the location for a potential natural gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility. Shell’s Gulf Coast GTL facility would be one of the first of its kind built to commercial scale in the United States. Shell built the first commercial GTL facility in Malaysia in 1993.

Over the last three years, EPA has provided nearly $300 million in grants and rebates to modernize diesel fleets with cleaner heavy-duty trucks and equipment, according to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. Region 6 (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas) will accept applications requesting up to $2,500,000 in grant funds.

Air Products commercialized its Garyville hydrogen plant in late 2009 and has been supplying hydrogen via pipeline to Marathon’s refinery since 1993. The new pipeline extension, which is in the project execution phase, will connect Air Products’ Texas hydrogen system to the Louisiana hydrogen system.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) offered a conditional commitment to guarantee loans of up to $2 billion to Lake Charles Methanol, LLC to construct the world’s first methanol production facility to employ carbon capture technology in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The captured carbon would be utilized for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in Texas.
