The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to make it easier for manufacturers to gain approval to sell fuel conversion systems. The proposed rule would cover conversions of light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty highway vehicles and engines, and would apply to all clean alternative fuels. Vehicle/Engine Age.

Biobutanol can be blended into conventional gasoline or diesel stocks without engine modifications. Butanol is certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an additive agent in gasoline up to 11%. The bill establishes an annual tonnage limit on greenhouse gas emissions from specified activities and directs the EPA Administrator to establish allowances equal to the tonnage limit for each year (with one allowance representing the permission to emit one ton of greenhouse gases, measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent).

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010.
