Despite this ongoing investment and years of institutional neglect of plug-in technology, more than ten times the number of electric cars are driving around than FCVs and more than twenty times the number of EV charging stations exist in California.

Charging times are also significantly longer: 6-8 hours using normal charging equipment. For larger cars, the TCO of FCEVs is expected to be lower than PHEVs and BEVs as of 2030.
