Mayor of Indianapolis announces plan to modernize city fleet to plug-ins and CNG by 2025

Calling it a vital national security issue, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard (a retired Marine officer and Gulf War veteran) signed Executive Order #6, 2012 making Indianapolis the first city in the nation to require the purchase of either electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles for the city’s non-police fleet, and the use of CNG in heavy-duty vehicles.

XL launches PHEV Ford F-250; 50% improvement in fuel economy

XL unveiled its plug-in hybrid electric Ford Super Duty F-250 pickup truck ( earlier post ) at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. The XLP F-250 features a high voltage 15 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is compatible with Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations using an industry-standard J1772 plug interface.

XL Hybrids, Inc. announced its XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System is now available on the Reach commercial van from Isuzu and Utilimaster. The retrofitted XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System saves fuel through regenerative braking, a process by which the electric motor helps slow the vehicle when the driver brakes, charging the battery.
