Goodenough , one of the inventors of the lithium-ion battery, died on 25 June at age 100. He probably is best known for developing the lithium cobalt oxide cathode in 1980—which became the foundation for Sony’s first commercial lithium-ion battery in 1991. His first was lithium cobalt oxide.

By Kamlesh & Raphae Every major automaker has announced plans to build Lithium-Ion battery gigafactories. Tesla, VW, BYD, Ford and others have plans to build giant gigafactories. So there is a lot of Lithium out there, even if we continue to use Lithium-Ion batteries for the next 20 years, we are good.

The average cost of the lithium-ion battery packs for large orders has fallen from about $600 a kilowatt-hour in 2015 to $150 a kilowatt-hour in 2020 according to the report of the ReportLinker.
