It did also occur to me that this is a bit like me personally pledging to buy only electric vehicles from this day forth. I’m not saying that the ACT Government isn’t doing the right thing, nor that its goal of having between 80 and 90 percent of new vehicle sales in 2030 being zero-emission models isn’t worthy, quite the opposite.

In a pre-response to that speech, having successfully advocated for plug-in hybrids like the forthcoming Chevy Volt, we propose that the President follow that speech up with a “realistic and conservative” roadmap to halve our oil use in 10 years. Oil is holding us all hostage, economically and physically. Finally, it’s time to begin.

You’ll also be finished forever with things like oil changes, tune ups, new air filters and the other maintenance that isn’t necessary with electric cars. So far GM, Toyota, Nissan, VW, Mitsubishi, have all announced plug in vehicles they will have for sale in 2010. So don’t buy another car until you can go electric.
