There is, of course, some kind of cursed crossover in the Ven diagram that includes both the Rick rollers of coal and the people who hate science, but anyway, let’s digress. I wouldn’t say he sounds smug and self-satisfied, because I hate understatement too much, but I would say he seems unlikely to buy an electric car any time ever.

No one needs to buy another new gas powered car. Keep your old car, or buy an inexpensive used car. The Plug-Ins are coming and you should wait till they get here before buying your next new car. Otherwise you’ll just be buying a dinosaur that you’ll have to pay to convert or dispose of. Save your money.

The combination of harvesting whole forests and burning long-sequestered carbon sources such as coal or oil has impaired the Earth’s carbon cycle at an increasing pace. This does not mean that you will not be able to buy that Cadillac or Corvette you have been admiring. We can set a goal to have every new vehicle purchased be a PHEV.

The objections they raised for years -- "no one is interested, no one would plug in, the technology is too complex, the benefits are minimal, its just shifting the pollution from the tailpipe to the smokestack, theres no demand for these cars" -- still show up occasionally, but are by and large history. People wont buy a full car.
