So well-suited, in fact, that I put it on my list of “if I needed a brand-new crossover, I’d consider buying this”. The juice is supplied by a 1.49 Some materials felt a bit cheap, though. All at a reasonable price. Total price? There are a lot of good choices at this size and price point.

Although Tesla gets the headlines (and stock price boost), Nissan and Chevrolet make the sales. Many workplaces could become EV friendly on the cheap, repurposing existing 120V outlets in parking areas and expressly allowing PEV charging. Providing a conventional 120V outlet is cheap and familiar. It’s also grid-friendly.

Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) home wall units are priced at between about $1000 and $2500. If a complete overnight charge is the goal, 120V will still suffice for a Volt, but a 240V EVSE will be essential for most who buy an all-electric car. They’ve kept my LEAF juiced, after all. Plus installation.

But it’s not cheap; it’s not elegant; and Lexus’ tech foibles carry over from the standard RX and other models. Volvo’s system will automatically kick in the gas engine when the accelerator is mashed to the floor, but Lexus doesn’t engage the gas engine in EV only mode unless the juice runs out.
