Fletcher is responsible for the Extended Range Electric Vehicle propulsion system in the Chevrolet Volt as well as the propulsion systems in GM’s upcoming line-up of Plug-In Hybrid Elecrtic Vehicles. eAssist is available on the Buick Lacrosse and Regal, as well as the Chevrolet Malibu and 2014 Impala.

It takes a lot of money and time to develop and produce hybrid cars and electric vehicles, but that's not to say regular gasoline cars can't benefit from some of their technology. Mild hybrid technology is a cost-effective way of improving the gas mileage of a car using a fairly simple electric motor and battery setup.

The engine works in conjunction with an electric motor and a rechargeable 17.8 liter inline 6-cylinder engine.

Currently hybrid and electric vehicles have a tiny share of the market in India and China and are seen as a higher-end product. Currently greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector in India and China are a smaller piece of the pie compared with other sectors. But vehicle ownership is going to skyrocket in these countries.
