The Buick LaCrosse is adding eAssist light electrification for the 2018 model. Compared to previous Buick eAssist executions ( earlier post ), this newest iteration is more sophisticated, powerful and compact. By this time next year, five Buick models will offer this advanced transmission.

Fletcher is responsible for the Extended Range Electric Vehicle propulsion system in the Chevrolet Volt as well as the propulsion systems in GM’s upcoming line-up of Plug-In Hybrid Elecrtic Vehicles. As she outlined it: eAssist provides a average 25% fuel economy improvement over a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.

The EPA fuel economy numbers of 21 mpg city/26 highway/23 combined are almost exactly what we got covering 301 miles driving through Southern California. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the next generation RDX is a hybrid or plug-in hybrid to get that fuel economy into the mid-30 miles per gallon range.
