Volvo Cars is significantly cutting CO 2 emissions in its logistics operations by switching transports between its manufacturing plants and new car depots from trucks to trains. On another route, from Ghent to a second depot in Austria, emissions were cut by almost half since switching to rail transports.

The framework contract includes an option for a further 130 new VDL Citeas, which in the coming years will contribute to a further reduction in CO 2 emissions. Amsterdam has developed the Route Map Amsterdam Climate Neutral 2050: the city will reduce its CO 2 emissions by 5% in 2025, 55% in 2030 and 95% in 2050 compared to 1990 levels.

In line with the UN Paris Climate Agreement and the EU Green Deal, ATS, MPET and PSAA aim to reduce their carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 with 2019 as a baseline and have net-zero emissions for all their terminals by 2050. Ports have already been identified as hotspots for hydrogen technology.
