Volvo Cars launched the battery-electric Volvo C40 Recharge; based on the CMA vehicle platform it is the first Volvo model designed as pure electric only. Following the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and now the C40 Recharge, Volvo Cars will roll out several additional electric models in coming years.

Volvo Cars reported global sales of 48,520 in January, up 2% compared to the same month last year. Sales of Volvo Cars´ Recharge models of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars increased by 31% in January year-on-year, accounting for 40.7% of all Volvo cars sold globally during the month.

Volvo Cars formally inaugurated a new battery assembly line at its Belgian manufacturing plant in Ghent, where it will start building its first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge P8, later this year. Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain. The XC40 Recharge P8 is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos.

Volvo Cars reported global sales of 51,286 cars in February, up 22% compared to the same month last year and a record for the month of February. The sales growth was led by the company’s Recharge line up of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars. China sales reached 13,066 cars, up 50% compared with February last year.

Volvo Cars reported sales of 162,938 cars for Q1 2023, up 10% compared to the same period last year. For the month of March, Volvo Cars sold 63,132 cars globally, up 8% compared with the same month last year. Sales of Recharge cars ended up at 11%; all-electric vehicles were 4% of the total (435 units).

Volvo Cars reported global sales of 60,398 cars in May, up 31% compared with the same month last year. For the first five months of the year, Volvo Cars sales reached 275,312 cars, up 14% compared to the same period during 2022. The share of fully electric cars stood at 18%. US sales grew by 14% in May to 10,723 cars.
