GS Yuasa is a holding company jointly established by Yuasa Corporation and Japan Storage Battery Co., Ovonic Battery Company, Inc.

Sakura Battery Co is offering a line of EVs, including the Italian Maranello4 microcar. Limited ranged, lead-acid battery based cars, they have nonetheless proven the demand of even less than perfect electric vehicles. Mitsubishi could be the first with cars for sale if the UK distributor has its way.

CA, NY, MA and other states have had Zero-Emission Vehicle programs since the early 1990s because battery electric vehicles in those states, taking into account power plants, are far cleaner than gasoline cars in reducing urban air pollution and smog. The Bottom Line Plug-ins cost more mainly because batteries are expensive.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."
