Although the $7,500 consumer tax credit for buying an electric car is becoming more restrictive for new vehicles adhering to specific manufacturing requirements , there’s a provision enabling consumers to still enjoy the credit when leasing an EV assembled outside of North America.

Among the considerations were a 2+2 coupe, convertible, and two- and four-door SUVs. With the $7,500 EV tax credit included, prices could fall to as low as $27,500. In comparison, the sixth-gen Camaro started at just over $30,000. The 1LT will be available with prices as low as $27,495.

Out of 82 BEVs and PHEVs that are either currently available for sale in the US, or expected to be so by the end of 2022, 67 of them, or 81.7%, have a base manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) higher than $39,999, according to new analysis from EVAdoption. Fifteen or 18.3% have a base MSRP below $40,000 and 31 or 37.8%

Only available in the US beginning in March of 2021, the hot-selling Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) was apparently the top-selling PHEV in the US last year. One development that could positively or negatively affect sales of the 4xe later in 2022 is if Congress passes changes to the federal EV tax credit.
