Production of light-duty vehicles, trucks and buses in Japan fell 47.1% year-on-year in April, marking the seventh consecutive month of declines, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). As the first of the 10 models, the mass-production model based on the Honda SUV e:prototype is scheduled to go on sale in spring 2022. In Japan, Honda will strive for a BEV/FCEV sales share of 20% by 2030, 80% by 2035 and 100% by 2040. With this aim, Honda will be starting development for testing in Japan from this year.

Passenger car exports from Japan plunged 60.9% in January to 200,347 units (including 7,560 knock down units), down 311,969 units year-on-year, according to figures from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association. The new electric car brand Aion S—recently unveiled at Auto Guangzhou 2018 by GAC NE, GAC MOTOR’s new energy vehicle arm—will be the first line of cars to adopt Nidec’s fully integrated traction motor system (E-Axle) ( earlier post ). A modified 87 kg version of this basic integrated system will power the Aion S.

Vehicle production in Japan in July fell 31.9% year-on-year to 742,284 units—the tenth straight monthly decline— according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). Passenger car production fell 31% (288,996 units) to 643,585 units. Domestic auto sales for July were down 5.2%

Honda will begin sales in Japan of the Clarity Fuel Cell in March 2016. The next-generation fuel cell system which is being developed jointly with General Motors will move on to the next stage that includes production and purchasing, aiming at a product launch around 2020.
