Univ of Washington team working to make poplar coppice viable cheap, high-volume biofuel feedstock

Green Car Congress

Our research proved that poplar coppice can be a good option to meet the cheap, high-volume criteria of biofuel feedstock. Additionally, other tree parts go to waste when only the trunk is used, making the process more inefficient and wasteful. The researchers harvested poplar trees approximately the size shown in this photo.

Green Cars Part 4- Compressed Air

DIY Electric Car

Like hydrogen the air is not actually the source of energy, it is the storage medium, but unlike hydrogen the production of an air powered car is surprisingly cheap. Again compared to battery electrics the storage medium (tank) is not limited by a shelf life or number of cycles and therefore reduces waste.

IEA World Energy Outlook view on the transport sector to 2035; passenger car fleet doubling to almost 1.7B units, driving oil demand up to 99 mb/d; reconfirming the end of cheap oil

Green Car Congress

Subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption of fossil fuels jumped to over $400 billion. The share of fossil fuels in global primary energy consumption falls from around 81% today to 75% in 2035. Naysayer Alert – the hydrogen red herring

My Electric Car

The only by products are water and a fair degree of heat, the latter indicating a degree of inefficiency and wasted energy. Nonetheless, hydrogen fuel cell cars are, like pure battery powered cars, classed as Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV). If taken from such sources, hydrogen is a fossil fuel, and is not a renewable resource.

ACS Meeting Symposium Focuses on Conversion and Utilization of CO2 for Fuels and Chemicals

Green Car Congress

CO 2 conversion to hydrocarbons over catalysts has been known for several decades but has been shown very little research and development attention, as other technologies have been much cheaper and efficient in yielding cheap oil. Most research to date however is focusing on the sequestration of CO 2 in underground reservoirs.
