The production process—using only solar heat—was first demonstrated in 2019 in a mini-refinery on the roof of ETH Zurich. The precise mirror field control technology was developed and installed by Synhelion Germany. Since then, Synhelion has been focusing on scaling up the technology and making it industrially viable.

Japan’s NEDO, Sharp Corporation, and Toyota Motor Corporation plan to begin public road trials of electrified vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries from late July 2019. Toyota installed this panel on the roof, hood, rear hatch door, and other parts of its Prius PHV and produced a demo car for public road trials.

As part of its e-mobility roadmap, MAN Truck & Bus is sending a fleet of demo e-buses to customers in five European countries this year. Two electric central motors on the second and third axles give the bus the power it needs for city traffic. The energy for this comes from the modular batteries with 640 kWh of installed capacity.
