The K5 Blazer-E is a functional proof of concept of the upcoming Electric Connect and Cruise package Chevrolet Performance plans to sell in the second half of 2021. Chevrolet first previewed the eCrate conversion concept with the Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro in 2018 ( earlier post ), followed by the Chevrolet E-10 in 2019.

The combustion engine is based on the DTM unit used in the BMW M4 DTM in 2017 and 2018. The normally-aspirated P66/1 eight-cylinder engine used in the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the BMW M4 DTM was the one that got the nod. The two drive components were connected in the car for the first time at the end of June.

XL Hybrids will begin production on the new XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System for Model Year 2018 Ford Super Duty F-250 pickups in first quarter 2018. The XL3 system will be the first offered as a ship-thru upfit on Model Year 2018 F-250 pickups. Orders are being taken now for Q1 2018 ship-thru installation.

The US Department of Energy announced $98 million in funding for 40 new projects as part of OPEN 2018, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’s (ARPA-E) latest open funding opportunity. In this project, UC San Diego will develop a modular power converter matrix to control power flow to connected battery modules.

The new six-cylinder in-line engine comes with an intelligent form of turbocharging: assisted by the ISG at start-off, the electric auxiliary compressor (eZV) guarantees immediate high torque when driving off and accelerating, bridging the time before the large exhaust turbocharger cuts in. Since 2018, Volkswagen has used only SCR exhaust gas treatment systems with its diesel engines. SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology significantly reduces nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. Conversion rates do not drop above +350°C thanks to twin dosing-system.
