AES Gener has ordered 20MW of A123’s advanced Li-ion energy storage solutions for a spinning reserve project in Northern Chile. The project expands the relationship between A123 and AES Energy Storage and is AES’ second in Chile to use A123 energy storage technology.

Vattenfall and the BMW Group have signed a contract for the delivery of up to 1,000 lithium-ion batteries this year. The first energy storage from the BMW-i3 batteries is being built at the 122 MW onshore wind farm “Princess Alexia” near Amsterdam. It is meant to maintain the security of supply with a feed-in of 100% renewable energy.

Daimler is entering the commercial and residential stationary energy storage system (ESS) market with its wholly-owned subsidiary Deutsche ACCUmotive. BMW i announced a home stationary energy storage system solution integrating its BMW i3 vehicle battery at EVS 29 in Montréal. The battery storage system also includes a voltage converter and power electronics to manage the energy flow between renewable energy sources, the house interface, and the Li-Ion high-voltage battery from the BMW i3.
