Traditional combustion-only petrol and diesel powertrains fell under 50% share for the first time. France saw plugin electric vehicles take 24.4% of the auto market in November, with full electrics (BEVs) alone taking 15.2%. Overall auto registrations in November stood at 133,960 units, up some 10% year on year.

The Tesla Model Y broke all records, with the highest monthly sales of any vehicle in Norway’s history, with 7,445 units registered, and over 38% of the entire auto market. Petrol-only vehicles saw their lowest share in modern history, taking just 1% of the market. March’s combined plugin result of 91.1% comprised 86.8% plugin hybrids.

At this point, no one is wondering whether EVs are here to stay, but how soon will we get rid of petrol vehicles? When we think about electric cars, the image of Elon Musk shooting a Tesla into space with a Depeche Mode-like dummy promptly comes to our minds. In fact, before burning petrol, most vehicles ran on electric batteries.

Owners of the electric supercar model, the Tesla Roadster have now clocked up over 10 million miles and saved 500,000 gallons of petrol in the process. Running in over 30 countries, the 1500 Roadster models sold since the model was launched in 2008 have saved over 5.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
