Mercedes-Benz has restyled the 2012 C-Class sedan and lowered fuel consumption by as much as 31%. The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz’ highest volume model range; the current range has posted global sales of more than one million units since its launch in March 2007. L/100km (53 mpg US)—0.4 liters less than before.

Funded by the DOE’s Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity (AVTA), NREL’s Fleet Test & Evaluation (FT&E) team performed a 12-month evaluation of six MY 2007 P70D hybrid vans and six MY 2006 P70D standard diesel vans at a UPS location in Phoenix, collecting and analyzing fuel economy, maintenance and other vehicle performance data.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest research vehicle. We set a course on the large touring sedan segment in 2007, when we presented the F 700. In designing the F 800 Style with Plug-in Hybrid, the Mercedes engineers particularly focused on improving the possibilities of driving exclusively with electricity in urban traffic.

Based on the optimized more compact fuel cell system presented by Mercedes-Benz in its F 600 HYGENIUS research vehicle in 2005 ( earlier post ), the newly designed stack module is around 40% smaller, but develops 30% more power output and cuts fuel consumption by 16%. L/100km (97 mpg US).
