General Motors will invest $336 million in the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to begin production of the Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle in 2010. It is the hub for the wheel that we began rolling in 2007 when the Volt debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

General Motors and Powermat, a provider of wireless charging technology for mobile personal devices, announced a commercial agreement that will eliminate the need for charging cords for personal electronic devices in many future Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac products beginning mid-2012. The Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle will provide customers with a standard, eight-year/100,000-mile (161,000 km) warranty on its lithium-ion battery pack. It has a range of about 340 miles and is powered with electricity at all times. The warranty is transferable at no cost to other vehicle owners.

More than 80,000 people in New York, Washington, DC, and Greater Los Angeles, volunteered to drive the vehicles as part of Project Driveway, which began in November 2007. Regenerative braking extends the driving range. About 5,000 people have driven the fuel cell Equinox in short test drives.

European markets also have access to an extended range of Euro 5 and EEV engines with SCR technology. All inline engines are based on the latest platform introduced in 2007 with technologies to meet Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission requirements, as well as Euro 4 and Euro 3. The engines can operate on up to 100% biodiesel.
