The pilot project at Djurgården explores how a system with 5G-connected vehicles, which are monitored by a control tower remotely, can facilitate the safe introduction of self-driving electric buses in more complex and demanding urban areas. Telia is providing 5G connectivity in collaboration with Ericsson.

Zipcar was the first car-sharing company in the United States to introduce electric vehicles, starting in Boston in 2002, and the first to offer hybrid vehicles through a partnership with Honda in Seattle in 2003. Honda’s 2014 Fit EV, based on the popular five-passenger Fit, is rated at a combined fuel economy of 118 MPGe.

Honda, which first introduced a VCM system on the 2003 Inspire (an luxury Accord derivative introduced in Japan), first applied a VCM system to the Pilot in MY 2009. The new Pilot offers five USB ports, four that provide better recharging with 2.5-amp This contributes to improved fuel economy.

Because he also dusted off Toyota’s disingenuous presentation about the effort made to sell RAV4 EVs from the infamous ZEV Meeting in 2003, he seems to be suggesting Toyota wants to take neither path offered by CARB to meet true Zero Emission Vehicle requirements. The return to Toyota of the EV fleet is on hold for the moment.

The system recovers the energy and converts it to electrical energy, which recharges the battery and extends driving range. The RAV4 EV’s gauge system includes a “turtle light”, or reduced power indicator, which Toyota last used on its 2001-2003 first-generation (North America) Prius. The vehicle slows down while energy is captured.
