Audi''s Gen 2 3.0L Audi of America introduced four new TDI clean diesel models for the US market this year—the Audi A8, A7, A6, Q5—along with an updated Q7 TDI, all equipped with a second-generation 3.0L V6 TDI diesel engine. TDI clean diesel represents almost 25% of Audi and Volkswagen US sales.

Audi’s diesel hybrid racer takes grid position one at Le Mans

The new Audi R18 e-tron quattro diesel hybrid ( earlier post ) will start the 80 th running of Le Mans from grid position one. Le Mans record winner Tom Kristensen in the number “2” Audi R18 e-tron quattro set the fourth-fastest lap (3m 25.433s) behind the quickest hybrid vehicle from Toyota. But this is just a very small step.

Winterkorn says Volkswagen developing 10-speed DCT and high-performance diesel; plug-in hybrids offer great potential

Areas of work being focused on by Volkswagen include the development of a high-performance diesel engine delivering 100 kW (134 hp) per liter of displacement and a new 10-speed dual clutch gearbox that reduces fuel consumption. Since 2000, the group has reduced the fuel consumption of its TDI and TSI engines by more than 30%.

Behind Audi’s 12th Le Mans win: less fuel, more speed

Audi posted its 12 th Le Mans 24 Hour victory on Sunday in its Audi R18 e-tron diesel hybrid quattro. A permitted fuel tank capacity of 58 liters theoretically made a maximum of 1,972 liters of diesel fuel available at the stops. Audi also topped the efficiency index as well.
