The new car replaces Volvo’s highly-successful original XC60, which in the nine years since its launch became the bestselling premium mid-sized SUV in Europe with nearly a million units sold globally. As expected, the combination of fewer diesel registrations and more SUVs continued to have an impact on emissions. g/km, almost half that produced by diesel and petrol vehicles. The 2024 Range Rover Electric has been previewed ahead of its launch next year with the British 4X4 maker releasing pics and early details of its flagship SUV that will provide a more luxurious and expensive alternative to large battery-powered rivals like the Kia EV9. Not that the Range Rover Electric will neglect luxury.

During the first quarter, the Volvo XC60 SUV was the best-selling model, followed by the S60L long wheelbase sedan and V40 hatchback. At the Beijing Motor Show, Volvo Cars also officially introduced the Volvo S60L Petrol Plug-in Hybrid (PPHEV) ( earlier post ), underlining its commitment to bringing electrification technology to China.

The final diesel-powered model was an XC90, a large SUV with a turbocharged inline 2-liter four-cylinder engine, which rolled off its production line yesterday in Torslanda, Sweden. Petrol-burning engines are soon to see the same fate.

Petrol-only vehicles saw their lowest share in modern history, taking just 1% of the market. Finally, the Nio ET5 made its Norway debut in March, registering a healthy 41 initial units (for info on this new model, see my Sweden report ). For those keeping records, the iX1 a is mid sized SUV (almost the same length as the VW ID.4).
