Toyota has stuck to its hybrid strategy because that’s what has worked for them in the past. The brand, known for the Prius, continues pushing hybrids, fuel cell, and other gas-powered cars despite most governments moving toward all-electric. Norway, for example, already reached 82.4% EV market share in 2023.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. TMC is also considering introducing plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) will lease more than 150 units of its experimental Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) to selected fleet customers across Europe as a next step towards commercialization. France will be the first country to participate in the three-year European pilot, with discussions ongoing in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
