Having already surpassed the Toyota Prius during its first month of sales in the UK, Honda’s Insight is now ranked as the best selling car among all new vehicle registrations in Japan in April marking the first time a hybrid model has been the top seller during any monthly sales period.

After months of doom and gloom for the auto industry in the USA, there is finally a ray of hope courtesy of hybrid cars. Reported sales of hybrids in the US increased by 5.2 Indeed sales of hybrids have significantly out-performed the total light duty vehicle market, which dropped by 27.7 per cent in volume to 859,847 units.

The Insight itself is already cheaper than Toyota’s Prius, albeit it only achieves 41mpg compared to the Prius’s 50mpg. However, with Honda suggesting that first year sales of the Insight are likely to miss the manufacturer’s target by at least 30 per cent in the USA, it is now looking at alternatives. .
