To date, $9.3 billion in cap-and-trade proceeds has been appropriated to 20 state agencies that have distributed $3.4 billion from other sources.

In 2010, DGS partnered with Propel Fuels on a State and Federal grant opportunity to build 75 E85 alternative fuel stations throughout California. In 2011, the DGS partnered with Coulomb Technologies on their State and federal grants to install 24 Level 2 electric charging stations at five DGS parking facilities in the Sacramento area.

These grants are capped at $95,000. nLiten Energy Corporation of Mountain View will receive $95,000 to prove the feasibility of growing thin-film three-dimensional solar cells using self-assembled nanowires onto a low-cost substrate.

Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. The initiative will provide financial and technical assistance to many large fleets including: ARAMARK, Efficiency Enterprises, Nestle Water Company, Sysco, and UPS to purchase 150 hybrid electric vehicles.
