Unveiled last July, the i-MiEV electric car can now be purchased in Japan, including government subsidies, for ¥2.84 Factoring in subsidies, the i-MiEV will effectively sell for around 2 million yen. The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. million (US$31,300).

Lower-line Lightnings use the 12-inch horizontal display from high-end gasoline F-150s. But it’s not a new idea for EVs—Japan used the relatively tiny 16 kWh battery packs in hundreds of Mitsubishi i-MiEV minicars to power mobile medical units in the wake of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that destroyed the Fukushima nuclear plant.
