The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a formal safety defect investigation (NHTSA Action Number PE11037 ) to assess the risk of a battery-related fire in Chevy Volts that have been involved in a serious crash. Chevy Volt owners whose vehicles have not been in a serious crash do not have reason for concern.
