SacRT began piloting the service in February 2018 in partnership with the Franklin Neighborhood Development Corporation using compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. Green Commuter is a Los-Angeles-based shared mobility company that provides zero-emissions solutions for vanpools, employee transportation, and delivery vehicles.

It’s rare when consumer karma actually works out for any buyer of any product made today, but then again, your friendly neighborhood Greenius is not your usual consumer. Our RAV4 EV had a range of only 103 miles per charge and had no fast charging mode, so when Tesla announced their 310 mile range Model 3 in 2016 and its $35,000 price.

I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. On top of that, I’m currently running at 80+% electric miles. Still turning in max EV miles. The number of EVs in my neighborhood seems to be growing weekly.

The far higher volumes of carbon dioxide per mile from heavy trucks make them an obvious target for zero-emission powertrains. It had a 264 kWh battery pack powering the tractor’s twin motors with more than 4,000 lb-ft of torque and a range estimated at up to 150 miles. Rising fuel-economy standards during the 2020s will do the same.

Since 1993 my wife and I have lived in Torrance California, just a half mile from the beautiful beach and the Pacific Ocean. What we’re not breathing is clean air, because the smoke from the La Canada-Flintridge fire, about 38 miles from here, is still making air quality hazardous and people in the L.A.
