Smirnova and research scientist Dr. Abu Md “Numan” Numan-Al-Mobin are leading the grant proposal to NSF for the establishment of the Center for Green Solid-State Electric Power Generation and Storage (CEPS). Each university received $15,000 of the planning grant. NSF will evaluate CEPS’ progress during the conference this week.

Ford Motor Company and Progress Energy are working together to help prepare the Research Triangle area of North Carolina for the operation of electric vehicles. Progress Energy is developing a charging station pilot program as part of a $200 million smart grid grant it received from the US Department of Energy.

Results from a study by a team from Carnegie Mellon University, Ford and Drexel University suggest that Chinese consumers are more receptive to adopting battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) than their American counterparts, regardless of subsidies. The study is published in the journal Transportation Research Part A.
