Siemens Energy, Duke Energy and Clemson University have teamed up to study the use of hydrogen for energy storage and as a low- or no-carbon fuel source to produce energy at Duke Energy’s combined heat and power plant located at Clemson University in South Carolina.

Under its newly-unveiled Genesis 2015 plan, the University of South Carolina will reduce CO 2 emissions from its fleet of vehicles by 90% within five years. Within five years, all vehicles on the Columbia campus will be powered by ethanol, biodiesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electricity or hydrogen fuel cells.

Argonne, the Grainger College of Engineering and the School of the Chemical Sciences with the University of Illinois’ College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, are now partnering with the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) in conjunction with MTD’s initiative to add two fuel cell buses to its fleet of 111 vehicles.

In 2019, Siemens expanded the 272,000-square-foot Wendell facility to manufacture DC fleet EV chargers, adding more than 50 jobs. The Wendell location also works with local educational institutions including North Carolina State University and Wake Tech Community College for training and workforce development.
