The grant scheme will enable around 500 Estonian private individuals to acquire an electric car who can choose between any electric car that has obtained an EU type approval. More concrete terms for support will be established by the Ministry of Economy and Communications and the grant scheme will be operated by KredEx.

The three countries that do not apply CO2-based taxation are Estonia, Lithuania and Poland. Most countries grant only tax reductions or exemptions. According to the new Guide , 24 countries levy car taxes partially or totally based on the CO 2 emissions and/or fuel consumption of a vehicle.

Skeleton Technologies , an energy-storage start-up located in Tartu, Estonia, was recently awarded a US patent ( #7,803,345 ) on its nanoporous carbon powder supercapacitor material. The US patent and soon-to-be-granted EU patent gives the company protection for carbide-derived-carbons suitable for energy storage applications.

The government of Jordan and the Saudi Arabian Corporation for Oil Shale (SACOS) recently signed a $2-billion agreement under which the government grants the Saudi company the right to extract and to develop the oil shale resources in the Attarat Um-AL-Ghudran region covering an area of 11 square kilometers.

Research by Select Car Leasing shows that the UK has one of the lowest EV purchase grants in Europe, ranking number 14 in the study. Estonia has the highest EV purchase grant in Europe with £15,500 ($21,622.36). With a price tag of £40,990 ($57,180.68), the Model 3 SR+ is not eligible for the UK’s plug-in grant.
