China-based Dongfeng Motor (DFM) has launched two new passenger cars powered by ProteanDrive Pd18 in-wheel motors. The two models were showcased at a ceremony in Wuxi, held by DFM and Weifu Electric Drive Technology (WFDT)—the joint venture between Weifu and Protean Electric ( earlier post ).

ZF has developed an electric motor which does not require magnets. In contrast to the magnet-free concepts of separately excited synchronous motors (SESM) already available today, ZF’s I 2 SM (In-Rotor Inductive-Excited Synchronous Motor) transmits the energy for the magnetic field via an inductive exciter inside the rotor shaft.
