The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi will soon introduce five other electric models, and that by fiscal 2013, it intends to sell upwards of 30,000 electric vehicles and be profitable. In September, BYD launched another low-cost EV , its Dolphin electric hatch. An extended range version (150 kWh battery) offers up to 295 miles (476 km) range, starting at ¥4 million ($27,000). The growth comes as domestic automakers like Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Mazda lag behind the market.

By 2030, aluminum demand from Electric Vehicles (EVs) will near 10 million tonnes, a ten-fold increase from 2017, according to analysis by mining and metals business intelligence firm CRU. In addition, scrap-intensive secondary castings usage will fall as the shift to full battery electric vehicles occurs, CRU predicts.

The data analyzed by Aston University combines and compares the behavior patterns of 25 Mitsubishi i-MiEV drivers over two consecutive quarters. This data will also be used to map out a future network of electric charging points, to further extend range and improve the convenience of electric vehicles.
