Lightning also outlined a diesel replacement scenario being considered by the rental car shuttle fleet. On this cycle, CO 2 emissions are reduced by 16% and NO x emissions are reduced by 67%.

A study of a hybrid tugboat, funded by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) and conducted by UC Riverside, found that when compared with a conventional diesel-powered version, a hybrid tugboat can reduce emissions of PM 2.5 quantify the effects of the diesel electric drive train versus batteries on the total emission.

The extracted rock can be used directly as a power plant resource or it can be processed to produce shale oil, which in turn can be refined into gasoline, diesel or jet fuels. Different that shale oil—i.e., Estonia has more than 4 billion tonnes of estimated reserves—just over 1.1% of global and 17% of European reserves.
