The Transit Custom PHEV targets an all-electric driving range of 50 kilometers (31 miles), and uses the multi-award-winning Ford 1.0-liter liter EcoBoost gasoline engine as a range extender for total range exceeding 500 kilometers (310 miles). Four British-built Optare MetroCity single deck electric buses are currently being trialed on route H98 in London, which operates between Hayes and Hounslow. This brings the total number of electric buses now in service in London to six. They support a range of up to 100 miles (161 km) depending on operating conditions.

Around 15 years ago, electric cars were typically only capable of covering less than 50 miles on a single charge. These days, some new releases like the Tesla Model S Long Range boast WLTP ranges above 400 miles. A more typical ‘real world’ range for most new EVs is in the region north of 150 miles. EVs are just city cars.

It’s easy to spec out a battery pack with enough kWh for a given size of truck to hit 60-80-100 miles, whatever the given fleet buyer needs.
