A study led by researchers at Tampere University of Technology in Finland found that the use of neat Neste MY Renewable Diesel in working machines—a Wille 355B compact utility machine and Wille 855C multi-purpose wheel-loader—efficiently reduces particulate matter emissions compared to EN590 diesel with 7% biodiesel.

Testing, which is still ongoing, is showing that Finnish wood-based UPM BioVerno diesel ( earlier post ) significantly reduces harmful tailpipe emissions. In addition, using 100% UPM BioVerno diesel decreased fuel consumption. UPM BioVerno renewable diesel is produced from wood-based tall oil.

Neste Oil celebrated the grand opening of its NExBTL renewable diesel refinery in the Port of Rotterdam. The refinery has an annual production capacity of 800,000 metric tons or 1 billion liters (264 million gallons US) of renewable diesel and cost around €670 million (US$873 million) to build.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) are beginning testing of the Soletair demo plant, which uses air-captured carbon dioxide to produce renewable fuels and chemicals.
