Volkswagen is presenting a fully autonomous, electric Microbus concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. BUZZ shown in Detroit can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5 seconds, with a governed top speed of 99 mph. Pilot” mode that could make it into production by 2025.

Testing was also conducted at the DTNA Detroit engineering facility to demonstrate engine efficiency by achieving 50.2% Detroit rear axles were upgraded for the Freightliner SuperTruck. DTNA began work on the SuperTruck program in 2010 together with Detroit and other partners, including national labs, universities and suppliers.

Volkswagen is unveiling a five-seater Cross Coupe GTE plug-in hybrid at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit as a preview to its new seven-seater mid-size SUV due to enter production at the end of 2016. The Cross Coupe has a zero-emissions range of up to 20 miles (32 km) and can reach 60 mph from rest in just 6.0

FCEV” refers to all fuel cell vehicles, including E-REVs and fuel cell hybrids. The paper was presented by authors Ed Tate and Peter Savagian at last month’s SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit. Motive power comes from the battery pack when available and when power and speed requirements are below 53kW and/or 56 MPH.

At the recent SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, General Motors engineers presented the first front-wheel-drive (FWD) iteration of their two-mode hybrid transaxle, termed the 2MT70 ( earlier post ), scheduled for its first application in the Saturn 2009 VUE 2-Mode Hybrid light sport-utility vehicle later this year ( earlier post ).
