Yet California is experiencing shortages of electric cars, with many dealers saying they''ve entirely sold out of plug-in electric cars. Some Nissan dealers in Portland, Oregon, even say the Leaf electric car is now their best-selling passenger car.

Tony Whittaker, Sales Director at Cleaner Air Solutions in Durham, today took delivery of the first of five Nissan LEAFs the company is buying, at the Benfield Motor Group dealership on Portland Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. Nissan has begun deliveries of the Nissan LEAF battery-electric vehicle to customers in the UK.
