Among electric vehicles from automakers that report specific sales numbers for their EV models, the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV was tops in the US in 2021 with 27,3707 units sold. Another top-selling EV beyond Tesla models that is not included is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV, which likely saw 2021 sales of between 20,000-25,000.

GM is bringing back the Hummer brand as an EV within the GMC brand. For our discussion, Saturn dealers were the delivery and service point for GM’s aborted first electric car, the EV1. This marketing choice by Ford is either a very bad idea (brand dilution) or a genius plan to move the pony car into the modern era.

Aston Martin DBX PHEV and EV – electrified versions of AM’s first SUV on the cards. No surprises there are promises of big performance for a PHEV due late in 2022 or early 2023.

BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen have all not shipped certain electric models to the US and Toyota is shipping the majority of their RAV4 Prime PHEVs to Europe and Asia. The base version of the Kia Niro, for example, is a hybrid but it also comes in PHEV and BEV version. That would still leave eight automakers without an EV.
