Sandia National Laboratories’ Battery Abuse Testing Laboratory is undergoing a major renovation so Sandia researchers can test larger batteries for electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. We’ll have the capability to test batteries in the 5- to 15-kilowatt-hour range, which we’ve never done before.

The stimulus package is designed to address the recession and in the short term people were anxiously awaiting two key components of the plan: clarification on the details behind “ grants in lieu of tax credits ” and awards of loan guarantees by the DOE from section 1705. Generally, tax equity investors expect a return in the 8-12% range.

That is because electric fuel can be provided by renewable energy such as the wind. All we lack is bold political and corporate leadership to put this technology in play immediately. In addition to providing the heat for system processes, the CHP generator will provide 7.5MW of green electricity. First, the industry is approaching the ethanol-to-gasoline blend wall of 10% ethanol, 90% gasoline in standard gas engines. There has been activity with biomass electrical power generation in the past several months.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Morgan Olson LLC launched the next generation vehicle with new exterior and interior body styling for the all-electric walk-in van (WIV). FCCC first introduced its plug-in, all-electric WIV chassis earlier this year.
