Audi and KIT working on recycling for automotive plastics via pyrolysis oil

Green Car Congress

Whereas plastics of the same type can often be mechanically recycled, recycling of mixed plastic waste poses a major challenge. So far, chemical recycling has been the only method that can be used to convert such mixed plastic waste into products equaling the quality of new ones. Such materials are not recyclable in most cases.

LanzaTech exploring lipids production as part of its CO2 to acetic acid plans; pathways to renewable fuels

Green Car Congress

Part of the challenge is locating sufficient quantities of hydrogen to enable large scale use of the CO 2 in waste gases. LanzaTech envisions using partner technology to convert the acetic acid to lipids—i.e., that conversion wouldn’t actually happen in a LanzaTech bioreactor. Carbon Dioxide as a Feedstock.

ORNL team uses 3D printing and WBG semiconductors to make smaller, more powerful inverter (update w/ metrics)

Green Car Congress

Power inverters convert direct current into the alternating current that powers the vehicle. Additive manufacturing helped researchers explore complex geometries, increase power densities, and reduce weight and waste while building ORNL’s 30 kW prototype inverter. The prototype stems from a two-year $1.45-million DOE 2020 target.
