US DOE Awards $300 Million in Clean Cities Grants to Support Alternative Fuels, Vehicles, and Infrastructure Development

Like the Recovery Act-funded projects, the annual Clean Cities projects include grants for vehicles, infrastructure, and education. The project will include the purchase and conversion of 283 alternative fuel vehicles for numerous fleets including taxis, cities, schools, and delivery vehicles. Total DOE award: $12,633,080.

National Research Council report finds it unlikely the US will meet cellulosic biofuel mandates absent major innovation or a change in policies

As of 2010, biofuel production was contingent on subsidies, tax credits, the import tariff, loan guarantees, RFS2, and similar policies. Dedicated energy crops will have to be grown to meet the mandate, which will probably require conversion of uncultivated land or the displacement of commodity crops and pastures.
