This type of charging would likely be found at retailers, truck stops, and roadside convenience stores , where EV drivers will exit the highway for a meal or rest stop before continuing their journey. Conversely, destination charging is needed at a traveler’s final destination, such as a hotel, resort, or conference center.

The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state. The project will result in expanded availability of alternative fuels with 17 new CNG and E85 fueling stations and 63 electric vehicle charging stations. Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

In June about 500 cars were placed in consumer and fleet hands in Los Angeles and New York and New Jersey for what BMW calls a " field trial." They produced a small fleet for the Munich Olympics in 1972. The car is essentially a high-end conversion. In the case of the electric Mini, that means no backseat.

CATS’ fleet and financial plans call for the replacement 1998, 1999 and 2007 year diesel buses with new diesel buses in fiscal year 2012. CNG-Hybrid Buses: Purchase CNG-Hybrid buses to replace Ford Diesel vehicles in the ART fleet. NJ Transit, New Jersey: $250,000. Arlington Transit – ART, Virginia: $1,500,000.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

The University of California, Davis and the BMW Group released the largest publicly available study of electric-car users yet conducted, including more than 120 families who drove the fully electric MINI E automobile more than 1 million miles in California, New York and New Jersey from June 2009 to June 2010.
