The BMW Group broke ground for a new high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff, South Carolina. The BMW Group Plant Woodruff will produce sixth-generation batteries to supply fully electric vehicles at nearby BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg. Plant roofs are being prepared for the installation of photovoltaic systems.

The solution, which resembles a modern-day fueling station, was developed in late 2021, and then installed in only three days at Siemens’ R&D hub eMobility and North American Headquarters for Electric Products. The busway power distribution equipment is manufactured at Siemens’ 540-person manufacturing hub in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
