Chrysler unveiled the all-new 2017 Pacifica minivan in both conventional and plug-in hybrid versions at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The PHEV is the minivan segment’s first. The Pacifica Hybrid will deliver an estimated all-electric range of 30 miles from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.

Nissan is likely to develop a low-cost, compact powertrain similar to those in Honda hybrids, with an electric motor to provide additional power to a constantly working engine. The motor will run on high-performance lithium ion batteries. Nissan’s Serena minivan is likely to be the first model to get the hybrid makeover.
